Managing Distribution Group Membership

Overview

Using Microsoft Outlook for the Web, you can manage memberships in distribution groups that you own through this portal. Here, you can edit members by adding them or removing them. This guide explains how to add or remove a member and common issues that may arrive when doing so.

Instructions

Click on one of the choices below to view the contents.

Accessing the portal
  1. Go to outlook.office.com and sign in with your St Lawrence University email address and password. If prompted, complete the authentication request.
  2. Click on the gear Settings icon on the upper right corner.
  3. Click General on the left side of the menu that appears.
  4. Click Distribution groups
  5. Click the text reading this portal.
Adding members
  1. Follow the instructions under "Accessing the portal" or click on this link to open the management portal. If prompted, sign in with your St Lawrence email address and password and complete the authentication request.
  2. Click Groups that I own.
  3. Click on the group that you would like to edit.
  4. In the menu that appears, click Members.
  5. Click View all and manage members.
  6. In the top left corner, click + Add members.
  7. Enter the email or name of the user you would like to add in the search bar on the right.
    1. If the user does not appear, they may already be a member. You can check this by clicking the Back arrow and searching their name in the members list. 
  8. Click the user's name from the list that appears.
  9. Click Add.
Removing members
  1. Follow the instructions under "Accessing the portal" or click on this link to open the management portal. If prompted, sign in with your St Lawrence email address and password and complete the authentication request.
  2. Click Groups that I own.
  3. Click on the group that you would like to edit.
  4. In the menu that appears, click Members.
  5. Click View all and manage members.​​​​​​​
  6. Enter the email or name of the user you would like to remove in the search bar on the right.
  7. Click the user's name from the list that appears.
  8. Click Delete.

 

Common issues

Group membership has up to a 30 minute delay, so changes may not take effect immediately.
