Information Technology has events planned throughout October for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. We will spend time in the Sullivan Student Center helping people install the MS authenticator app as well as answer questions, play games, and give out prizes! Look for prize opportunities in these events:
Update software (10/25/22)
Come let us help you install the Microsoft Authenticator app at the Student Center!
IT strongly recommends installing the MS Authenticator app and, in some cases, such as travel abroad or VPN, it is REQUIRED. Stop by the Sullivan Student Center on October 18th and October 28th from 11:30am to 1:30pm and members of IT can assist you with installing the app. Come to the IT Cybersecurity Awareness table and show us that you have installed the MS Authenticator app or install the app with us and then you will be entered in a drawing for a SLU sweatshirt!
More information on Multi-Factor Authentication.
VPN and Password Policy Update
Three important changes that will affect the ENTIRE campus, yes that means you!
If you use the VPN (Virtual Private Network),
you MUST install and configure the Microsoft Authenticator App before October 31 at 11:59 pm. We will enable MFA on the VPN and it will require the Microsoft Authenticator app to accept the token each time you use the VPN. In other words, if you do not install the Authenticator App by
October 31st, you will NOT be able to utilize the VPN.
The Password length requirement is changing
on November 15, 2022. After that date, the next time you change your password it will need to be a minimum of 12 characters long – the current minimum is 8 characters
With the increase in password length requirements and the addition of Multi-factor Authentication to our systems, you will no longer be required to change your password annually.
Beginning
November 15th, 2022, you will need to be connected to the VPN to access the Remote Desktop Services (
https://remote.stlawu.edu) from off campus.
