(NEW) Distribution Group Overview

Information

Distribution groups are University email lists that the University and departments use to send email communication to specific groups. New distribution groups can be requested and are created by Information Technology. Distribution group owners can manage and edit their own group membership. 

Distribution Group Management Instructions

Click on one of the choices below to view the contents.

Groups that you own
  1. Sign in to the Distribution Group Portal with your SLU credentials.
  2. In the "Distribution groups I own" section, click on the group you would like to manage.
  3. Above the list of groups, click the Edit button (the button that looks like a pencil).
  4. A new window or tab will appear with settings that you can change. Make the desired changes to your distribution group. 
  5. Once you have made your desired changes, click the Save button on the bottom left of the screen.
Groups where you are a member
  1. Sign in to the Distribution Group Portal with your SLU credentials.
  2. In the "Distribution groups I belong to" section, click on the group you would like to manage.
  • To view the details of a group, click the Edit button (the icon that looks like a pencil).
  • To  join a group, click the Join button, select the group from the menu that appears, and click the Join button again.  Note that most distribution groups at St. Lawrence require you to be invited and you cannot add yourself with this method.
  • To  remove yourself from a group, select the group you would like to leave on the list, then click the Leave button and then confirm "Yes " to leave the group.  Note that you cannot leave some groups, also note that you may not be able to rejoin a group without being re invited by the owner of that group. 

Glossary

Name

Easily recognizable name. "SLU2021 - St. Lawrence University Class of 2021"
Alias Address based name that complies with procedural guidelines. "SLU2021-g"
Email Address

"SLU2021-g@stlawu.edu"

Members These are the email addresses that will be included in the Distribution. We are currently only allowing internal SLU email addresses in our Distribution groups.
Open Anyone can join and leave the group without being approved by the group owners/manager.
Closed Members can only be added and removed by group owners/managers. All requests to join will be rejected automatically.
Message Moderation By default, all members of a Distribution are allowed to send email to the group. If Message Moderation is enabled, there are 2 different roles available...
Moderators These individuals or groups will receive notice of new messages being send to the group and must either Approve the message for delivery to the group or Reject the message.
Moderator Exempt These individuals or groups do not require Moderator approval to send messages to the Distribution group.
