Email Setup Instructions

Information

In order to sign into your email, you will need to have Multi-Factor Authentication set up. If you don't remember your password, you can set or reset your password. Incoming students, you will receive your St Lawrence University email address from the Registrar's Office. Microsoft does not support Gmail, so you cannot view your St Lawrence University email from Gmail.

Set up your email on your devices

Click on one of the choices below to view the contents.

Outlook for Mac

To install Office 365 apps on your computer, including Outlook, follow these instructions.

  1. Open the Outlook app.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Outlook.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Click Accounts.
  5. Under the box on the left side of the window, click the + Button.
  6. Enter your SLU email address. 
  7. Click Continue. 
  8. At this point your computer may find your account signed in via other Microsoft apps. If it does, you will see a green checkmark. You can now click Done. If it does not, continue to step 9.
  9. If prompted, enter your SLU password. 
  10. Click Continue. Outlook will complete its setup.
Outlook for iPhone/iPad
  1. Download the Microsoft Outlook app from the App Store.
  2. Once it has finished installing, open the Outlook app on your phone. 
  3. Tap the Home button on the top left of the screen next to Inbox. It will be next to the word Inbox and will look like three lines or a circle.
  4. Tap the Gear icon on the bottom left of the screen. 
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Tap Add Email Account.
  7. ​​​​​Your device may say "1 Account Found" if you were previously signed into other Microsoft apps. If so, you can tap Add Account. If it does not, continue to step  6. 
  8. Enter your St Lawrence University email address.
  9. Tap Add Account.
  10. You will be prompted to complete a Multi-Factor Authentication challenge. If you have the Microsoft Authenticator App, tap Open Authenticator.
  11. Enter your St Lawrence University password when prompted. 
  12. Tap Next. You will return to the Outlook app, and setup will be complete.
Outlook for Windows

Note: if you are using Mail for Windows or an old version of Outlook, you will need to update Outlook to add the account. To do this, open the Mail App for Windows and click "Try the New Outlook" in the upper right corner of the screen. You will then be prompted to sign in. 

To install Office 365 apps on your computer, including Outlook, follow these instructions.

  1. Open the Outlook app.
  2. When opening Outlook, you might be prompted to sign into Office. If this happens, click Sign In.
  3. Enter your email address into the box.
  4. Click Next.
    • If you are signing into a University device, your account may be signed in at this point. If it does not, continue onto the next steps.
  5. Enter your password.
  6. Click Next.
  7. If prompted, complete the multi-factor authentication challenge. 
    • Your account may be automatically set up at this point. If it does not, continue onto the next steps.
  8. In the toolbar at the top of the screen, click File.
  9. Click Add Account.
  10. In the box that pops up, if your email address is not currently present, type in your email address.
  11. Click Connect.
    • If a box pops up named "Mail Delivery Location", click OK.
  12. If you are already signed into other Microsoft Office applications, you may receive a message saying your account was added successfully. If this happens, click Finish.
Outlook for Android
  1. Download the Microsoft Outlook app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Once it has finished installing, open the Outlook app on your phone. 
  3. If you do not have any email accounts currently set up on your Outlook app, it will prompt you to add an account. Tap Add Account.
    • If you are not prompted to add an account right away:
      1. Tap the Home button on the top left of the screen. It will be next to the word Inbox and will look like three lines or a circle.
      2. Tap the Gear icon on the bottom left of the screen. 
      3. Tap Add Mail Account.
      4. Tap Add Email Account.
  4. Enter your SLU email address.
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. When prompted, enter your SLU Password.
  7. Tap Sign In.
  8. You will be prompted to complete a multi-factor authentication challenge. Do so via Text Message or with the Microsoft Authenticator App. 
  9. If prompted to "Activate Device Administrator", tap Activate, then tap Activate again.
Mail for iPhone/iPad
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Microsoft Exchange
  6. For Email, enter your St Lawrence University email address.
  7. For Description, enter Stlawu
  8. Tap Next
  9. Tap Sign In
  10. Tap Continue if a box appears.
  11. If prompted, enter your St Lawrence University password and complete the multi-factor authentication challenge.
  12. Tap Save. Return to the Mail App and your email will begin downloading.
Mail for Mac
  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. In the upper left corner of your screen, next to the Apple button, click Mail.
  3. Click Accounts.
  4. Click Add Account, or if you are on an older version of Mac, click the + sign on the lower left corner of the window.
  5. Choose Microsoft Exchange.
  6. Enter your full St Lawrence email address.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Sign in.
  9. Enter your St Lawrence email password.
  10. Complete the authentication prompt.
  11. Click Done.
Outlook for Web (Webmail)
  1.  Navigate to outlook.office.com.
  2. Enter your St Lawrence email address.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Enter your St Lawrence password.
  5. Click Sign in.
  6. Complete the authentication request.

 

Remove email setups on your devices

If your account was recently migrated, or you have the old configuration on your device, you need to remove that account first. If you are experiencing errors when trying to open email, try removing the account and re-adding it.

Click on one of the choices below to view the contents.

Outlook for Mac
  1. Open the Outlook app.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Outlook
  3. Click Preferences
  4. Click Accounts
  5. In the box on the left side of the window, click on the account you would like to remove.  
  6. Under the box on the left, click the - Button.  
  7. You will be asked if you are sure you want to sign out of the account. Click Sign Out
Outlook for iPhone/iPad
  1. Open the Outlook app on your phone.  
  2. Tap the Home button on the top left of the screen. It will be next to the word Inbox and will look like three lines or a circle. 
  3. Tap the Gear icon on the bottom left of the screen. 
  4. Tap the account you would like to remove. 
  5. Tap Delete account. Your email account will still be saved by St Lawrence University, so doing this will not delete your email data.
  6. Tap Delete from this device
Outlook for Windows
  1. In the top tool bar, click File
  2. Click Account Settings. 
  3. Click Account Settings... 
  4. In the box that appears, click the email address you would like to remove. 
  5. Click the Remove button. 
    • You may be prompted to create a new location for your data. If this happens, follow the next steps. Otherwise, continue to step 6.
    •  Click Data Files.
    • Click Add.
    • Choose a name for your file, then click OK. 
    • Return to the Email tab, click your email address, and click Remove
  6. In the box that pops up, click Yes

Outlook for Android

 

  1. Open the Outlook app on your phone.  
  2. Tap the Home button on the top left of the screen. It will be next to the word Inbox and will look like three lines or a circle. 
  3. Tap the Gear icon on the bottom left of the screen.
  4. Tap Accounts
  5. Tap the account you would like to remove. 
  6. Tap Remove Account
  7. Tap Remove

Mail for iPhone/iPad
  1. Open the Settings app. 
  2. Click Mail
  3. Click Accounts
  4. Click on your St Lawrence University account. 
  5. Click Delete Account. Your email account information will still be saved by St Lawrence University, so doing this will not delete your email data.
  6. Click Delete from my iPhone
  7. You should now see Deleting... appear on your screen. Wait until it disappears. 
Mail for Mac
  1. Open the Mail app. 
  2. In the upper left corner of the screen, click Mail next to the Apple button. 
  3. Click Accounts
  4. Click on your St Lawrence University account. 
  5. Click Delete account. Your email account information will still be saved by St Lawrence University, so doing this will not delete your email data. 
    • If you are on an older version of Mac, click on the - button on the bottom left of the window. 
  6. Click OK

Outlook for Web (Webmail)
  1. Navigate to outlook.office.com.
  2. Click the Accounts button on the upper right corner. It will look like a circle with a picture or your initials.
  3. Click Sign Out
    • If the account you want to remove is not currently open, click the three dots next to the account name and then click Sign Out and Forget.
