Windows Defender is the Windows 10 version of Security Essentials. It should be pre-installed on Windows 10. For information on activating Windows Defender visit this page.
If there is another anti-virus software already running on the computer, it should be un-installed before installing Security Essentials or activating Windows Defender.
IT recommends that students, faculty, and staff use Microsoft Security Essentials if they do not already have an anti-virus software installed on their computer. Security Essentials is already installed on Windows 8 computers.
