Click on one of the choices below to view the contents.
Ensure Your Computer is Ready for Teams Calling
In Teams, click the
Calls
button on the left side of the window.
On the bottom left side of the window, click the
Options
button (⚙️).
Click
Device Settings.
Under
Audio Settings,
ensure that your speaker and microphone are set to the correct sources.
This will differ depending on if you are using a headset, headphones, etc.
Once you have made your selections, click
Make a test call
to test your settings. You should be able to hear the dial tone, the automated voice on the other end, and then be able to record a test message.
If you do not hear the dial tone or automated message, repeat Step 4 and choose a different Speaker.
If you do not hear your own recording during the call, repeat Step 4 and choose a different Microphone.
If you hear both correctly, Teams calling is now all set and ready to be used.
Making Call in Teams
In Teams, click the
Calls
button on the left side of the window.
There are two ways to select the person you would like to call: using the dial pad or searching for a contact(s).
If you wish to use the
dial pad
, click on the dial pad to enter the phone number of the person you would like to call.
If you wish to use your
contact list,
begin typing the name of the person you would like to call into the box labeled "Type a name or number", then click the name of the person you would like to call when it appears. The names of SLU faculty and staff are in your contact list automatically.
You can also call multiple people at once via the contact list.
Click
Call
.
A new window will pop up, and the call will begin.
When you are ready to end the call, click
Leave
.
Place a Call on Hold
While in a call, click the
Hold
button at the top of the window to put the call on hold.
Click the
Resume
button to resume the call.
Mute your Microphone
While in a call, click the
Mic
button at the top right of the window to mute your microphone. You will see the microphone icon with a slash through it to indicate you are muted.
Click the Mic button again to unmute your microphone. The slash on the microphone icon will disappear to indicate you can be heard again.
Use the Dial Pad During a Call
While in a call, click the
Dial pad
button at the top of the screen to open the dial pad.
Transfer a Call
While in a call, click the
Transfer
button at the top of the screen.
You will have two options, Transfer or Consult then transfer.
Transfer
will simply send the person(s) to whom you are speaking to another recipient to take the call for you.
Consult then transfer
will allow you to speak with the person you intend to transfer the call to, and from there will have options to complete the transfer or return to the original call.
Enter the phone number or name of the person to whom you want to transfer the call, then
click their name/number
when it appears.
Click
Transfer/Chat.
Turn on Live Captions
While in a call, click the
More
button at the top of the screen.
Click
Language and speech.
Click
Turn on live captions.
After a few moments, you will see captions appear in the call window.
Change Your Audio Devices During a Call
While in a call, click the
More
button at the top of the screen.
Click
Audio settings.
Make any necessary changes to your audio devices.
