Update Windows Defender Manually

Problem

Sometimes you may notice that Windows Defender updates get stuck in Windows Update, or do not complete. Follow these steps in order to update Windows Defender and make those listed updates disappear from Windows Update.

Resolution

1. On the search box in the bottom left corner of your desktop, search for “Windows Security”.
2. Click on the shield icon on the left hand side of the window that appears.
3. Scroll down to “Virus & Threat Protection Updates”.
4. Click “Check for Updates”.

This will prompt Windows Defender to update itself manually. From here you can minimize the window and the program will update on its own.
