How to ensure your documents will print successfully

There are currently a few known issues with the copiers on campus. St. Lawrence is working actively with our copier vendor to get these resolved. However, there are a couple of steps you can take to ensure that you can still print successfully.

When printing PDFs or Photos from Windows computers

The default apps Windows 10 uses for opening PDFs and photos (Edge and Photos respectively) are each currently having an issue where jobs that appear on the copier will not actually print when hitting the print release button. To ensure that these files print successfully, please take the following steps:

  1. When printing PDFs, use either Adobe Acrobat DC or Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free from Adobe.
  2. When printing pictures or photos, use another photo software such as Microsoft Paint, or Adobe Photoshop. Paint is installed by default on all Windows 10 computers.

When printing from Google Chrome

Google Chrome will sometimes default to using A3 or A4 paper sizes when printing, which is not recognized by the copiers. When this happens, an error will appear on the screen, asking you to pick a tray to print from. You can still continue the print job at this time by selecting a tray with 8.5" x 11" paper and pressing Start on the copier. However, to ensure that documents printed from Chrome will print correctly, please take the following steps:

  1. When it's time to print, click on "More Options" from the printing menu in Chrome
  2. For Paper size, select either "Letter" or "8.5 x 11" from the drop down menu.
  3. Click Print.

If these options do not help or you have other printing trouble, please contact the IT Help Desk.
