SLU Public Printing Overview - Printing Quotas, Costs, and Billing

Overview

SLU Public Printing is a printing service available to faculty, staff and students. The service was established in collaboration with Thelmo in 2008 to address concerns on campus for paper and toner waste and in support of the President's Climate Commitment. Print jobs can be submitted from anywhere on campus and picked up at any of the Public Printing copiers. This ensures users get the document they need, when they need it, from a location nearest to them. A SLU ID card is required to pick up a print job from a Public Printing Station.  Faculty and staff costs will be assigned to their department(s).

Printing quotas, costs, and billing for students

Each student is allotted $48 for printing per academic year. The balance declines at $0.03 per side of a sheet for black and white printing and $0.15 per side of a sheet for color printing. There is a minimum charge of $0.06 per sheet. A sheet is defined as one 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, front and back. A side is defined as one of two total sides of a 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. Students are encouraged to print multiple pages per sheet to make the most of their allotment and reduce printing costs to the University and the environment. Two-sided printing is enabled by default when printing to SLU Public Printing copiers from lab computers.

Any printing in excess of the $48 allotment will be billed to the student in their end of the year bill from Student Financial Services at the aforementioned rates at the end of the academic year. Students can check their printing balance or request a refund for a failed print job at at http://publicprinting.stlawu.edu.  The initial $48 is non-refundable as this is an allotment and is never payed for by the student.

Examples:

Abraham prints a one page document in black and white. Although only one side of the 8.5" x 11" sheet is printed on, due to the $0.06 per sheet minimum charge, Abraham's total charge to print the document is $0.06.

Hannah prints a three page document in black in white. She prints double sided so only two sheets of 8.5" x 11" paper are used. Hannah's total charge to print the document is $0.12.

Abigail prints a three page document. Page two has a chart with color. She prints double sided so her document uses two sheets of 8.5" x 11" of paper. She is charged $0.03 for the black and white side of sheet one and $0.15 for the color side of sheet one. She is charged $0.06 for sheet two due to the $0.06 per sheet minimum. Her total charge is $0.24.
