Uninstall and Remove the Microsoft Authenticator App

Overview

There are times when removing the Microsoft Authenticator App can be necessary, such as for troubleshooting issues or moving to a new smart phone. For removing the Authenticator App, follow these instructions.

Instructions

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Security Website.
  2. In the list of Sign In Methods, look for one that is called "Microsoft Authenticator", and click the Delete button.
    • You may be prompted to sign in with Two-Factor Authentication. Click Sign In.
    • Enter your SLU username and password.
    • Complete the multi-factor authentication challenge. If necessary, click the Delete button again.
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the section called "Default Sign In", change your sign-in method to Phone - Text.
  5. Click Confirm.
  6. On your phone, uninstall the Microsoft Authenticator app.
