Panopto records your screen and up to two other video sources. In addition to creating and delivering screencasts, with Panopto:
- Students can comment on/discuss videos
- Quizzes can added throughout the video
- PowerPoint slides are processed to be clickable/searchable
- Instructors can see viewing statistics
Access Panopto
Safari is not recommended for creating, managing and editing content in Panopto. Firefox, Edge and Chrome are recommended and all browsers should be fine for viewing content.
Your account is the same whether you access Panopto directly or via Canvas. Adding the Canvas integration will create a folder for your course and allow your students to view the contents of the course folder directly from Canvas.

- Go to https://stlawu.hosted.panopto.com and click Sign In
- Enter your St. Lawrence University email address and password
Canvas Integration
There are three ways to add Panopto content to your Canvas course. No matter how you are adding videos or playlists, you should start by enabling and accessing the Panopto tool in Canvas (option 1), which will automatically create a course folder in Panopto that you and your students have access to. If you prefer to link directly in a module (option 2) to or embed in a page (option 3).
Option 1: Add the Panopto tool to your Canvas course
Adding the Canvas integration will create a folder for your course and allow your students to view the contents of the course folder from the Tool Menu in Canvas.
- From your Canvas course, click Settings
- Click Navigation (tab above)
- Scroll as needed and click the [ ⋮ ] next to Panopto and then choose Enable (or drag the tool up)
- Click Save
Option 2: Add Link to a Video to a Module
- Log into Canvas at: https://stlawu.instructure.com and go to your course.
- Create a new, or click into existing module.
- Click the '+' icon in the module to add an item.
- From the drop-down menu, choose 'External Tool'
- From the external tools window, choose 'Panopto Video.
- In the Panopto window drop-down menu, choose the folder, or simply change to 'Everything'
- Search the video.
- Select and then choose Insert.
Option 3: Embed Video on a Page
- Log into Canvas at: https://stlawu.instructure.com and go to your course.
- Create (or edit an existing) page.
- Place cursor where you would like to insert the film.
- Choose the "plug" icon in the editor.
- Choose 'Panopto Video' (or 'View All' if it does not show)
- In the Panopto window drop-down menu, choose the folder, or simply change to 'Everything'
- Search the video.
- Select and then choose Insert.
- Video will be added to/embedded on page, you can click away and continue adding text as needed.
- When done, click Save
Creating an Assignment Folder in Panopto
An assignment folder is a folder in your Canvas course Panopto folder that allows students to create or upload videos. To set this up, the recommendation is to use Option 1 (see above) and then create the assignment folder within the course folder.
