Configure VPN on macOS

In order to connect to the VPN, you must set up the Microsoft Authenticator App.

You may need to remove your current configuration before connecting if you have previously used the old VPN server.

  1. Open the Apple menu
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Click Network
  4. * If you have the old VPN server configured, select it on the left and delete it with the -  (minus) button *
  5. Click + to add a new network connection
  6. In the drop down menu, select VPN
    1. For VPN Type, select L2TP over IPSec
    2. For Service Name, type SLU VPN
    3. Click Create
    4. Server address: vpn.stlawu.edu
    5. Account name: your SLU network ID
  7. Click Authentication Settings
  8. For User Authentication, select Password and enter your network password
  9. For Shared Secret, enter stlawu
  10. Click OK
  11. Select Show VPN status in menu bar
  12. Click Apply
  13. Click Advanced
  14. Under the Options tab, select Send all traffic over VPN connection
  15. Click Ok
  16. Click Apply

To connect, click the new icon in your menu bar and choose Connect SLU VPN. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App and approve the notification. Once connected, you will be able to connect to your network drives, the faculty/staff portal and all library resources as if you were on campus.
