Set the Microsoft Authenticator App as your default MFA method

If you already have the Microsoft Authenticator App set up for Multi-factor Authentication, but do not have it established as your default method, this tutorial will show you how to set it as your default.

Prerequisites

This guide is for people who have already set up the Microsoft Authenticator App on their smartphone or tablet, but have not set it as their default method for Multi-factor Authentication. If you have not yet set up the Microsoft Authenticator app, please do so here, and follow the instructions. You will be shown there how to set Microsoft Authenticator app as default.

Instructions

  1. Visit https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. Enter your SLU Email Address, then click Next. 
  3. When you see the St. Lawrence logo, enter your SLU email address and password. Then click Sign in.
  4. Complete the MFA challenge either via the Microsoft Authenticator App or via text message.
  5. Next to Default sign-in method, click Change.
  6. Select Microsoft Authenticator - notification from the drop-down list. 
  7. Click Confirm.
