Accessing SLU Virtual Desktop

Overview

Faculty, staff and students can access a Windows PC from a computer or mobile device with Internet access by going to https://desktop.stlawu.edu. SLU Windows Desktop is perfect for accessing applications that are Windows-only or that you do not have installed on your computer.

Using Web Browser

Use VMware Horizon View HTML Access to access the SLU Virtual Desktop from your web browser. It offers quick and easy access (no install required) to a Windows desktop and all applications, but lacks features of the client.

Use this option for sporadic access to SLU Windows Desktop, or if you’re using a computer that is not your own.

  1. Open a Web browser and go to https://desktop.stlawu.edu
  2. Click VMware Horizon View HTML Access
  3. Enter your St. Lawrence network credentials and click Log in
  4. Click Windows 10 Lab to connect to the virtual desktop

Using VMWare Horizons View Client (Mobile or Desktop)

If you plan to use the virtual desktop regularly, install the VMware Horizon View Client. The View Client is an application dedicated to accessing the SLU Virtual Desktop. It can offer better performance and additional features such as allowing you to access your computer's hardware from the virtual desktop (e.g. a USB flash drive or Webcam). You only need to install the application once.

  1. Open a Web browser and go to https://desktop.stlawu.edu
  2. Click Install the VMware Horizon View Client to be directed to a site with download options
  3. Find your operating system and click Go to Downloads
  4. Download and install the application
  5. When prompted to enter the Connection Server, type desktop.stlawu.edu
  6. Click Connect
  7. Enter your St. Lawrence user name and password and click Log in
  8. Double click Windows 10 Lab to connect to the virtual desktop

For future connections, open the VMware application and log in to connect to the desktop.
