Listserv Delivery Issues with External Email Providers

Due to a conflict with our version of Lavasoft’s Listserv software and new email security practices put in place by external email service providers, we’re currently experiencing known delivery issues with some external email service providers. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Gmail
  • AOL
  • Comcast
  • Yahoo
  • Zendesk
  • Hotmail
  • Outlook.com
  • Live.com
  • 123.com
  • Ymail.com
  • Rocketmail.com

Behavior

External list members with addresses hosted by one of the above service providers (i.e. x@yahoo.com) will be unable to successfully send e-mail replies to the list.  The message will be rejected by the recipient’s mail systems as it fails their organization’s email authentication (DMARC) policy. DMARC is a framework for identifying and rejecting potential phishing messages, or any unauthenticated messages that appear to be sent on behalf of one domain, but originate from a mail system elsewhere.

Recommended Action

While we implement and evaluate a dedicated replacement mailing list solution, we’re advising list owners with external list members to consider migrating to a mailing list hosted on Sakai, which is DMARC compliant. For further assistance, please contact the ODY Service Desk.
