Resources and Info for Retirees

St. Lawrence official retirees may choose to keep their university network/email account. Those who choose to keep this account must submit a service request to schedule a consultation with IT.  Without this consultation, network and email accounts will expire 30 days from retirement date and cannot be reactivated unless employment status changes.

St. Lawrence Network and Email Account
As is outlined in the St. Lawrence University Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and University IT/Information Security Policies, network and email accounts are to be used for university business only and personal business must be conducted with your personal email account. For instance, do not use your SLU email address as the basis of your identity when setting up personal online accounts.

Please visit the outgoing employee page for guidance on how to move email from your SLU email account to your PERSONAL email account.  This is required and IT can assist as needed.  Note: in the case of an employee or retiree death, the university will immediately disable all accounts tied to their identity.  As is the case generally, even in the circumstance of an employee or retiree death, access to university accounts by individuals other than the named user of that account is not permitted.

Retirees must continue to adhere to the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and University IT/Information Security Policies in order to continue access to university resources.  Compromised accounts interrupt, and put at risk, day-to-day university operations.  Therefore, compromised accounts will be disabled until required training has been completed.  Accounts have that have been compromised repeatedly will be disabled pending review by the CIO/AVP of IT and other appropriate senior staff.

Please setup an Out of Office message in Outlook to alert senders of your retirement.  Consult with your supervisor on the content of this message to potentially include who and how to connect with for university business as well as where to direct personal communications.  The Out of Office message will remain in effect even if you do not retain use of your SLU email account.

IT Help Desk Support
The IT Help Desk will continue to support faculty and staff with university network/email password and account related issues.  IT can assist with connecting to St. Lawrence resources such as VPN, SLU email, and network access.  For repair of other issues such as broken hardware, malfunctioning software, viruses, etc., IT can recommend other local support options.

Library Resources
Retirees will continue to have access to all online library research databases as well as access to ODY and Launders Science Library.  Retired faculty members may borrow materials for a year and retired staff members may borrow materials for four weeks, with a generous renewal policy in place.  All retirees continue to have access to research assistance provided by librarians in-person, via email or via the telephone.

Listservs
Retirees will continue to have access to the facstaff listserv and the faculty listserv (faculty only).  There is also a retiree listserv available, the management of this listserv is undergoing some changes and information about who to contact to be added will be updated shortly.

University Computer and Software
All university owned computers and peripheral devices will be retreived by IT upon retirement, this includes capital, operating, grant and gift funded technology.  The computer harddrives will be stored for 30 days after retirement before erasing all data.  Software installed with university licenses on personally owned computers must be uninstalled and personal licenses must be purchased by the owner of the computer.  This includes but is not limited to Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Printing
Emerti faculty continue to have access to SLU Public Printing Service and fees will be charged to their academic department.  Print services are available to retirees through Office Services for a fee, please email requests to officeservices@stlawu.edu

Network Storage
Faculty keeping their network login will continue to have access to their P Drive but will not have access to other network drive resources (Sakai, T and S Drives).
