Installing Java on Windows 10 for use with CROA

Overview

In order to use the Java based editor in business objects, users must be using Internet Explorer with an appropriate version of Java. 

Instructions

To find out which versions of Java are currently installed: 

  • Type “Java” in the Windows search bar and select “Configure Java” 
  • In the Java Control Panel click “Java” 
  • Select View 

Install Java for use with IE: 

  • Open \\ourslu\installs$\java 
  • Copy JavaSetup8u231.exe to a local folder (eg. desktop/documents) 
  • Run the installer for the local location 
  • Once Java is installed, restart the computer 

Add site exceptions in the Java control panel: 

  • Type “Java” in the Windows search bar and select “Configure Java” 
  • Click the ‘Security’ tab 
  • Add “https://reporting.stlawu.edu” and “https://reportingtest.stlawu.edu” to the Exception Site List 

Reset IE: 

  • Close all open windows and programs.
  • Open Internet Explorer, select "Tools" and then select "Internet options"
  • Select the "Advanced" tab.
  • In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, select "Reset"
  • In the dialog box that says "Are you sure you want to reset all Internet Explorer settings?", select "Reset"
  • When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings select "Close"and then select "OK"
  • Restart your PC to apply changes

Confirm Java is working and accept any warnings: 

  • Open https://reporting.stlawu.edu/ and have the user open a report in design view
  • If you see a message that says, "Your version of Java is out of date", select "Do not ask again until the next update is available" and click "Later"
  • If you see a message that says, "Block potentially unsafe components from being run”, select "Don't Block"
  • If you see a message that says, "Do you want to run this application? Your version of Java is out of date”, click "Run"
