Import and Export WordPress Site

This article explains how to export your WordPress site as an .xml file. This is useful for faculty, staff and students who are leaving the University and want to take the content of their site to archive or transfer to another site.

Export

1. Log in to your existing site
2. Hover over My Sites and select the site you want to export
3. Click Tools
4. Click Export
5. Choose what to export and click Download Export File

You can backup this .xml file for safe-keeping or import it to another site.

Import

1. Create a new site
2. Hover over My Sites and select the site you want to import data to
3. Click Tools
4. Click Import
5. Choose Run Importer under WordPress
6. Click Browse and select your .xml file
7. Click Upload file and import
8. If prompted, follow the instructions to Assign Authors
9. Check the box to Download and import file attachments
10. Click Submit
